What's your take on supplements/vitamins?

Other than fish oil, what 'magic pills' do you ingest? Did you stop taking that multi-vitamin? CoQ12? (I'm not even sure if that's real) St. John's Wort? Creatine? Post workout shake?

What's your take on vitamins and why do you take them? Should they be allowed? If so, what would you take?

Discuss.. a blog post will follow based on the comments.

The only thing I take in addition to the fish oil is a calcium/vitamin d pill. Most of my doctors have kind of shrugged their shoulders at the idea of vitamins in the past, saying as long as I eat a balanced diet I should be fine. Pre-Paleo I was doing a post-crossfit muscle milk, mostly just as an easy way to get some protein and nutrients immediately after working out.

In addition to fish oil the other vitamins I take (in the morning) are Glucosamine/Chondroitin, calcium/magnesium/zinc, garlic, vitamin E. In the evening I take a woman's multi-vitamin, vitamin d, vit c and b-12. Why? Mostly habit. Also because I might have read somewhere that they would do/help with something and whatever 'it' was I can't remember. I think I read that the garlic helped the immune system, and since I couldn't stand eating a clove of garlic a day (yes I tried that) I opted for the pills.

I'm taking the fish oil.

I took glucosamine/chrondoitin for several years - until I went to a running clinic at the University of Delaware this past October and found my knee pain was due to a glute imbalance. I've been doing exercises to strengthen my glutes, and the pills are a distant memory now.

I'm thinking about adding vitD but am undecided. It's one of those things that apparently not only "can't hurt" but actually do some good.
